UITS Research Computing will provide central resources and support to complement and extend college and departmental resources in order to provide the UA research community with a range and depth of CyberInfrastructure appropriate to a world class research university.

Research Computing

Research Computing includes High Performance Computing (HPC) and High Throughput Computing (HTC) systems, dense high capacity data storage, a 3D immersive visualization facility, and consulting services for HPC/HTC, visualization and statistics through UITS Research Computing services. Combining all of these resources enables breakthrough results that would have been impossible only a decade ago.

The UITS Research Computing team works closely with individual researchers and groups to determine each project’s requirements to design custom solutions encompassing hardware, software, automation of tasks, and complete operational support. The governance structure of centrally-funded research computing resources is a collaboration of faculty, staff and University Information Technology Services, defining use policy for resource access and standard procedures. The policies and procedures are monitored and updated by the governance body while the resources are administered, maintained, and supported by UITS Client and Infrastructure Services.

UITS Research Computing also:

  • provides campus leadership with a long-term vision and advocacy for research computing on campus
  • builds community among UA researchers by providing opportunities for mutual support, education, advocacy, events and collaborations
  • educates researchers about the opportunities for enhancing research programs with UA computing innovations
